Location of Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin

As Zermatt is an entirely car-free destination, Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin offers an electric taxi service to pick you up from Zermatt Train Station (5 CHF per person). This is a great option for those travelling with excess baggage.

However, if, like us, you prefer to walk, it’s only a 10-minute walk from the Zermatt train station along the main Bahnhofstrasse street.

The location of Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin couldn’t be more perfect as it’s less than a 10-minute walk to any of the 3 major routes up into the mountains - Matterhorn Glacier Paradise Cable Car, Gornergrat Cog Railway and Sunnegga-Rothorn Funicular

On top of this, the hotel is located on the same street as one of our favourite views of the Matterhorn, from the Kirschbrücke bridge.

First Impressions of Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin and Check-in

When you walk through the doors of Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin for the first time, you are instantly taken aback by the cute, alpine feel that the hotel has. The entire entrance lobby area is decorated in ornate, beautifully carved wood, which provides a truly unique, alpine vibe.

We were welcomed into the hotel by the nicest staff ever. Regrettably, we forgot to write down their names, but the reception staff at Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin were so incredibly friendly. They were super smiley and always wanted to help in any way they could!

Once we had checked in, we were invited to relax in the main foyer area, where a complimentary welcome coffee was served to us, along a tasty sweet biscuit.

We happened to arrive a little earlier than anticipated, so we actually left our belongings with the hotel staff and headed out to begin our epic 4-day winter Zermatt itinerary

When we returned, we were encouraged to unwind on the hotel’s sun terrace, where the iconic Matterhorn provides the perfect backdrop. At this point, we were given non-alcoholic apple cider, and it was absolutely delicious!

One of the hotel staff also kindly offered to carry our snowboard bag to the ski storage area beside the hotel so we didn’t have to take it up to our room.

We were very well looked after at Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin and our first impression (and every impression after that) was top class!

Our Room in Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin

We stayed in a double room during our time at Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin and it was certainly one of the nicest hotel rooms we’ve ever stayed in!

We were very fortunate to be given a double room deluxe featuring unbelievable views of the iconic Matterhorn from our private balcony.

Our favourite part of the day was returning to our room after a busy day skiing in Zermatt, pouring ourselves a fresh hot cup of complimentary Alpine Tea, and watching the sunset over the Matterhorn from our balcony. Incidentally, one of the most romantic things to do in Zermatt is to watch the sunset over this famous mountain peak.

The view from our balcony in our room

As appears to be the norm in Switzerland, our double bed came with 2 separate duvets. This meant we could roll over at the end of the night and not have to worry about the other one stealing all the covers - always a winner!

The room was incredibly spacious and featured plenty of hanging space for all our snowboarding gear. There was also a handy drying tray to put our snowboard boots in so they didn’t get wet all over the floor.

Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin also offers a daily dress-down service in the evenings, where staff come to tidy your room and get it ready for the night. While we passed on this service the majority of the time because we were in the room, the staff did leave us complimentary Lindt chocolates on our bed, which was a very nice, personal touch.

Our room in Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin

The only slight critique of the room in Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin is that the shower was very small. It is a traditional shower over a bathtub, which we are used to, but the bathtub itself was very thin, making it tricky to manoeuvre around in the shower. This is only a minor criticism, however, and it certainly didn’t detract from our stay at all.

There is something really satisfying about wearing hotel robes and slippers, it always makes us feel fancier than we are. So you can imagine how excited we were to wear them when visiting the hotel’s luxury alpine spa.

The room also had a mini bar with numerous cold drinks, and when we arrived, we were also given a small juice each, alongside a sweet baked treat.

In all, our at Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin was absolutely magnificent and the perfect place to call home while we tried to tick off as many of the best things to do in Zermatt in winter as possible during our stay!

Alpine Spa at Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin

Perhaps the standout feature of any stay at Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin is a chance to relax and unwind in their signature Alpine Spa facilities.

The Alpine Spa is the perfect place to come after a busy day in one of Europe’s best ski resorts for couples and is open daily from 11:00 - 20:00.

There are 4 different wet and dry saunas in the alpine spa - a Bio Sauna, a Finnish Sauna, a Saline Steam Bath and an Aroma Steam Bath.

We enjoyed hopping in between the wet and dry saunas to experience the full muscle relaxation benefits we craved after a busy day of exploring everything Zermatt has to offer.

Getting ready to head to the Alpine Spa

Once you’re fully sauna-ed out, you can have a quick rinse off in the showers before heading over to the Relaxing Room - a room certainly befitting of its name. Here you simply lay silently in your robe, enjoying fresh lemon water and complimentary nibbles, and unwind after a jam-packed day of exploring.

The Relaxing Room is so tranquil. We fell asleep here on more than one occasion!

Access to the relaxing room and all saunas is complimentary with all stays at Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin but as a special service, you can also book private massages, a private jacuzzi and a private bathing experience

The 30-minute private jacuzzi session costs 40 CHF (£35/$45) and you can choose from Eucalyptus, honey, peppermint or lavender. The 30-minute private bathtub experience costs 30 CHF (£26/$34) and the choices include mountain herbs, spruce needles, hay or pine.

All private experiences can be booked at reception and only add to the appeal of the alpine spa at Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin.

Honestly, if it wasn’t for the fact that we wanted to see so much while in Zermatt, we could have happily spent all day in the Alpine Spa floating from sauna to sauna, and napping in the relaxing room - it really is one of the cosiest and relaxing places we’ve ever seen!

Food and Drink in Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin

Each morning during our stay, we ventured downstairs to the breakfast lounge where we were greeted by an unbelievable spread.

The continental buffet-style breakfast featured absolutely everything!

From delicious overnight oats and fresh fruit to a wide selection of meats and cheeses to freshly baked croissants and pastries - breakfast really did have it all!

There was a great selection of fresh fruit juices to compliment the food, and the staff came around routinely to offer us tea and coffee.

You can also ask for a cooked breakfast to be prepared for you. We saw a couple order scrambled eggs and an omelette - both looked delicious but we were more than satisfied with our buffet breakfast.

In the main lobby of Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin, there is an inviting fire-lit bar area, which is the perfect place to relax in the evenings. We often sat here for an hour before heading out to dinner because it was so peaceful.

They have a wide selection of beers and cocktails available, but most of the time, we just opted for a pre-dinner coffee or tea.

Staff at Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin

We know we mentioned them earlier, but we wanted to give another shout-out to all the staff working at Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin. They are the reason we recommend staying at this wonderful hotel so highly!

From the moment we walked into the hotel lobby to the moment we left, they made our time so memorable, and we are very appreciative of all their efforts.

They were constantly smiling, asking whether we needed anything, bringing complimentary chocolates to our room and basically sorting everything out for us.

The reception staff were more than happy to assist us with restaurant reservations and give us advice on the best things to do in the area and the best ways to reach the ski hill.

Overall, the staff at Swiss Alpine Hotel Allalin were simply fantastic, and we can’t thank them enough!
